Hi...I have a Pinnacle MovieBox USB, a VCR, and an iMac with a
superdrive.
I would like to convert some VHS tapes to DVD’s. I cabled as follows:

INPUT into the Moviebox usb with the output from the VCR
USB to the iMac
all power plugs in & lights are on/green

I started the vcr on play then

I tried opening iMovie to see if the system recognized the input but
could not locate the VCR input.

I am at a loss at how to get the signal to the iMovie window so I can
copy the tape over and make the DVD.

Any suggestions?

Does this only work with firewire?

A check of the system requirements for Moviebox doesn't list any product
support for Mac OS. Only Windows systems. So it is possible that the Mac
can't recognize the Pinnacle unit. If the Mac will recognize the input, then
you would have to go to the import section of iMovie. Go to the iMovie help
and look up 'import' for instructions on how to do this for your iMovie
version. If following these instructions doesn't allow you to import video,
then I would check with Pinnacle tech support to see if they support Macs.

When I need to import analog video, I use my Sony DV camcorder. It has an
analog input, and then the camera converts the signal to digital, which
iMovie recognizes over a firewire input cable. Not all camcorders have this
conversion feature, and not all camcorders are recognized by Macs. You can
check the Apple website for compatible camcorders if you go this route.
